Dr. (Prof.) SVS Deo is a distinguished Surgical Oncologist with more than 35 years of experience in cancer care and surgical oncology. He is currently associated with Max Healthcare as Chairman – Surgical Oncology and practices at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket and Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital, Saket.
Dr. Deo specialises in Surgical Oncology, organ-based multimodality cancer management and precision oncology. His areas of clinical interest include Head & Neck Cancer, Breast Cancer, Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology, HIPEC, IORT, Peritoneal Surface Malignancies, Sarcoma and comprehensive cancer care.
With extensive experience in complex cancer surgery and multidisciplinary oncology, Dr. Deo has worked in leading academic and tertiary-care institutions. Prior to joining Max Healthcare, he served as Oncology Lead & Senior Consultant at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Delhi (2024–2026) and as Head of Department of Surgical Oncology at AIIMS & NCI, New Delhi (2017–2024). He also served as Professor of Surgical Oncology at AIIMS from 2011 to 2017.
Dr. Deo has received extensive international training in surgical oncology and advanced cancer treatment. His fellowships and training include programmes at MD Anderson Cancer Center, USA; Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, USA; Ohio State University, USA; Karmanos Cancer Center, USA; Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan; and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). He was also awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK, in 2024.
His professional interests include advanced surgical approaches for complex and locally advanced cancers, including cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC, as well as organ-specific and multimodality cancer treatment. His expertise encompasses the management of cancers affecting the head and neck, breast, gastrointestinal tract and peritoneal surfaces, along with sarcoma and other complex oncological conditions.
Dr. Deo has made significant contributions to oncology research and academics, with more than 250 research papers published in national and international indexed scientific journals. He has also been actively involved in more than 50 clinical and translational oncology research projects and clinical trials.
Among his professional recognitions are the Young Scientist Award from the Indian Society of Oncology (1998) and the Rolling Stone Award from the Indian Society of Peritoneal Surface Malignancies (2023). He also received a Gold Medal and Distinction during his MBBS at Rangaraya Medical College, Andhra University.
